Take Action - Help Ban Animal Gas Chambers

Horrific Barbaric Inhumane

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Who We Are

Take Action was launched in June 2011.When my co-founder & I discovered a gassing video,we were shocked. We had to do something. We discussed the issue & agreed that we should expose & bring awareness to the use of animal gas chambers.

There was very little information available when we started out.A couple of pictures,a video & news of 2 survivors of gassing. The first year with a dedicated group who joined our grassroots organization,we all worked tirelessly.Making 100's of phone calls, writing thousands of emails reaching out to others who had  information on the issue. We wanted to get all the information we could & share it.

Over time with all the information gathered,we created our map,the first of its kind, indicating states that do & do not gas.We compiled lists of states & names of shelters that used gas chambers. We continuously updated the page with the info we had collected. We wrote to all the big name orgs, famous folks, the President, writers & Dept Of Agriculture across the U.S.A few on line news papers printed letters to the editor that we had written, which was great. The Examiner had featured us & helped shed some light on gassing. Our good friend & advocate,Jayne from Australia featured us in Causes which further brought attention to gassing. But in the long run,no big organizations recognized us or our pleas for help.We appeared on the Ask Sue Radio Show discussing the topic of gas chambers. In 2017 we were guests on our dear friend Debbie Dahmer's Animal Advocates Radio Show ~ Voices Carry for Animals.

In 2012 Take Action & Animal Aid USA http://animalaidusa.org/legislation/animal-gas-chamber/  joined forces & became partners, both opposing animal gas chambers & working together once again to bring awareness to the issue. We raised $2000 with the help of our online supporters & sponsored 4 kennels at Animal Aid's Miracle Ranch.

We were consulted during the drafting of Congressman Moran's House Resolution 736 opposing the use of animal gas chambers in 2012 http://moran.house.gov/press-release/moran-introduces-resolution-opposing-euthanasia-animal-shelters & later were invited & attended the "Paws on the Hill" event at the Cannon Building on Capitol Hill, when the official announcement was made. This was a great opportunity for us to hand out informational material & flyers at the event. We were invited back a second time & once again we set up our table with info bringing awareness to gassing.

In May 2014,we were graciously sponsored a table at The Dog Bowl in Frankenmuth MI by Animal Aid.We gathered over 500 signatures on the Michigan petition to end gassing & educated 100's of people on the gassing issue. We handed out 50 info packets we created.

Our sister page Take Action - Help Ban Animal Gas Chambers Canada https://www.facebook.com/TakeAction2?ref=br_tf  has been very active in their advocacy, they to have also rallied to end gassing in Quebec https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.554246677989095.1073741829.177013695712397&type=3

We have created & hosted many events supporting various shelters in the U.S.Many having a positive change by ending gassing in their communities. We have some fantastic advocate friends in N.C. who have been relentless in their fight against gassing. Not to mention our on-line advocate friends who bust their behinds emailing, supporting & sharing events & info.

In time other gassing pages emerged & we have been supportive of them.Particularly Utah,Kentucky & Ohio.https://www.facebook.com/Stop.The.Gas.Chambers https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stop-the-Use-of-Gas-Chambers-in-UT-Animal-Shelters/274930132560618 We are here to assist or help any group in any way we can, please ask us anything about gassing we will gladly help.

In past years the Humane Society Of The United States & No Kill Advocacy Center have both come out opposing the use of animal gas chambers. This is great news for the animals because these groups are highly recognized, have money to spread the word further, have lobbyists to help support bills & have a considerably much larger following than we do.HSUS has further stepped up by offering grants to shelters to assist them in the transition from gas to injection.http://www.animalsheltering.org/resources/policies_guidelines/carbon-monoxide-co-for-euthanasia-of-animals-in-shelters-1.html No Kill has denounced the use of gas. http://www.nokilladvocacycenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/gaschamber.pdf

While I am happy these organizations have joined the fight in ending gassing I truly wish they had joined us in our mission which began 8 years ago,so many more animals could have been saved from horrific deaths if the public had have known & opposed gassing & helped bring change.

We certainly are proud of the accomplishments & strides we have made to help bring an end to gassing in various shelters.

While gassing news is not always available daily we keep our page updated with animal related articles.

Please feel free to join our crosspsosting page to further assist animals in need by sharing.Take Action 4 Paws. https://www.facebook.com/groups/takeactiond4paws/members/

Please join our mission in bringing awareness to animal gas chambers.6 states have ended gassing through legislation during the 8 years we have been present on Face Book.PA,MA,DE,TX,MS, & LA. A simple share or conversation has the ability to incite others to help spread the word & ultimately bring about change.UT,MN,MO,OH & WY have confirmed use of gas chambers.NE,IN & KY are questionable, from the info we have received we believe gas chambers do exist.

About Take Action:  With leadership across the country and internationally, Take Action is comprised of volunteers who have a wide range of experience in animal welfare issues.  We rescue, volunteer at shelters, foster adoptable dogs and cats, and are committed to making the world better and safer for our shelter pets. Ending the use of the gas chamber across our nation’s shelters and replacing it with the more humane method of lethal injection is our number one priority.

The following information matches/reflects our findings. We have previously shared on our main page.Though through our contacts we believe MN,S.C. & IN continue to gas.
